Surf lessons at Piha Surf Academy are of the highest quality. We pride ourselves in providing safe and fun learning environments for all of our surfers. Our coaches and lessons are supported and implemented with expertise in education and psychology ensuring all surfers enjoy high-quality lessons. We cater for all, beginners to advanced, children to adults, as well as schools and larger groups.
Our surf school, Piha based, operates on the west coast of Auckland, New Zealand. A mind-blowing surf destination with perfect conditions for beginners to advanced surfers.

Our group lessons are a fantastic way to have fun and learn to surf alongside other keen beginner surfers. The informative sessions enable you to get a great head start. Our group lesson ratios are 1 instructor to 6 surfers a smaller ratio than the guidelines of Surfing New Zealand (1:8).
We take pride in our interactive lesson all sessions include a theory aspect to give you the confidence in the water and in yourself. You will learn about beach safety such as rips and surfing technique. All steps are tailored to your ability and you will get the support and instruction you need to have fun surfing and progressing.

Needs at least 2 surfers to run. Flying solo? Upgrade to a private lesson for just $119.
Lessons at 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm.
Bookings for 9am and 11am close at 9pm the night before. Bookings for 2pm and 4pm close 3 hours before the lesson.

Our private lessons include a 2-hour one on one session with an experienced instructor including your wetsuit and suitable board hire if required. Choosing private lessons to ensure your instructor has their undivided attention on you, engaging in directive feedback to master your surfing skills. Whether a beginner or a more advanced surfer, professional guidance can support you taking the next step in riding the wave. Consecutive private bookings enable us to monitor and track your surfing so you grow quicker.

PRIVATE GROUP:
Our private group lessons are a 2-hour session just for your crew of 2–6, with an experienced instructor, wetsuits and suitable boards included. Your coach works only with your group, so everyone gets plenty of attention and you all progress together. Perfect for friends, families and workmates.
