Piha is Auckland's best-known surf beach, about 45 minutes' drive west of the city. Piha Surf Academy runs 2-hour surf lessons at South Piha for complete beginners and improving surfers, with board and wetsuit included.
Surf lesson options
Group surf lesson: $80 per person, 11am, ages 10+, up to 6 surfers per instructor.
Private group surf lesson: $120 per person for 2 to 6 people, at 2pm. Your own instructor for your friends or family.
Private one-on-one surf lesson: $139, at 9am, plus 4pm on weekends.
Lesson packs: group 3-pack $225 or 5-pack $340 (from $68 a lesson); one-on-one 3-pack $360 or 5-pack $550.

Getting to Piha from Auckland
Drive west from Auckland via Scenic Drive and Piha Road (about 45 minutes). Meet us at the blue surf trailer in the South Piha Beach carpark, 23 Marine Parade South, Piha.
What to bring
Swimwear and a towel. Your surfboard and wetsuit are included in every lesson.
